An internist and lipidologist at Penn Medicine in Philadelphia, Daniel Soffer, MD said research shows keto produces modest reductions in triglycerides, modest changes in heart-protective high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and minimal changes in low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels. Some studies, show an increase in LDL on low- or very low-carb diets. (Long-term studies, however, are lacking.)
